At Dolphin King Beach Equipment Rentals, safety is a priority with every beach setup we provide. Florida beach conditions can change quickly, especially when wind, thunderstorms, and afternoon weather move through the area. That’s why we use multiple anchoring methods and setup procedures designed to keep our shade equipment as secure and stable as possible.

We offer three different types of beach shade rentals: beach umbrellas, cabanas, and 10' x 10' pop-up canopy tents. Each option is installed differently based on its size, design, and exposure to wind.

Beach Umbrellas

Our beach umbrellas are a simple and convenient option for creating shade for smaller groups.

When we provide full setup service, each umbrella is secured using a 12-inch sand screw anchor that is installed deeply into the beach sand. The anchor helps provide significantly more stability than simply pushing an umbrella pole into the sand.

Umbrella Safety

Even when properly anchored, an open beach umbrella can catch a large amount of wind. If winds begin increasing or a storm is approaching, the umbrella should be collapsed immediately.

Customers should never leave an open umbrella unattended during windy or changing weather conditions.

Beach Cabanas

Our cabanas provide a larger shaded area while maintaining the convenience and open-air feel of an umbrella-style beach shelter.

The cabana is secured using a 12-inch sand screw anchor along with four additional attached sandbag supports positioned around the cabana. These sandbags provide extra stability and help distribute the load when wind moves across the canopy.

Cabana Safety

The additional sandbags provide greater support, but a cabana still has a large fabric surface that can catch the wind.

If winds become strong or a storm appears to be approaching, the cabana should be collapsed and the sandbags pulled into the center until conditions improve. Customers should not rely on the sandbags or anchor alone during severe or rapidly changing weather.

10' x 10' Pop-Up Canopy Tents

For customers who want maximum shade coverage, our 10' x 10' pop-up canopy tents provide approximately 100 square feet of covered space.

Because these tents have a much larger surface area, they require a different anchoring system. During setup, we attach large sandbags to the tent and bury them deeply in the sand to provide additional weight and stability.

The canopy is carefully positioned and secured to help minimize movement during normal beach conditions.

10' x 10' Tent Safety

A 10' x 10' canopy can catch significant wind because of its large roof area.

When winds increase, it is very important to lower the canopy to its lowest available height setting. Lowering the tent reduces the amount of surface area exposed to the wind and lowers its overall profile.

If severe weather or dangerous wind conditions develop, customers should lower the tent as low as it can go and discontinue use of the canopy until conditions are safe.

Florida Beach Weather Can Change Quickly

Even on a beautiful sunny day, Florida weather can change with little notice. Wind gusts and thunderstorms can develop quickly, particularly during the warmer months.

For that reason, customers using any Dolphin King shade equipment should regularly monitor local weather conditions and the equipment throughout the rental period.

If winds become strong or a storm is approaching:

• Beach umbrellas: Collapse the umbrella.
• Cabanas: Collapse the cabana.
• 10' x 10' canopy tents: Immediately lower the tent to its lowest height setting and discontinue use if conditions become unsafe.

Anchors and sandbags provide additional stability, but no beach canopy, umbrella, or anchoring system should be considered completely windproof.

General Beach Equipment Safety

In addition to shade equipment, Dolphin King provides a variety of rental items including beach chairs, floats, boogie boards, beach toys, coolers, tables, blankets, and other accessories. While many of these items are lightweight and easy to use, they can also become difficult to control when beach winds increase.

To help prevent lightweight equipment from blowing away, floats and boogie boards are provided with a securing strap that can be connected to the base of your shade canopy when the items are not in use. Customers should make sure these items are secured whenever they are unattended, particularly on windy days.

When Winds Increase

If conditions become windy or a storm is approaching, customers should take a few simple precautions with all rental equipment:

• Lay beach chairs flat on the sand rather than leaving them upright where they can catch the wind.
• Secure floats and boogie boards using the provided straps whenever they are not being used.
• Bring lightweight beach toys, towels, and accessories together and place them in a secure location.
• Keep coolers closed and properly positioned so lids and loose contents cannot blow away.
• Lay lightweight folding tables flat or store them under the shade structure if winds become strong.
• Do not leave loose equipment unattended when weather conditions are changing.

Even relatively small beach items can become airborne in a strong wind gust, creating a hazard for nearby beachgoers. If conditions become severe, customers should secure, collapse, or lay down all rental equipment until the weather improves.

Float & Water Equipment Safety

Inflatable floats, boogie boards, and other water equipment should always be supervised while in use. Wind and currents can quickly carry lightweight equipment away from shore.

Children should always be supervised around the water, and flotation toys should never be considered a substitute for a properly fitted life jacket or other approved safety equipment.

Keeping the Beach Safe for Everyone

Our safety procedures are designed not only to protect our rental equipment, but also to help protect our customers and everyone sharing the beach.

Florida beach conditions can change quickly, so customers should use good judgment throughout the rental period. If winds or weather begin to deteriorate, the safest option is always to secure loose items, lay equipment flat, collapse/lower shade equipment when appropriate, and wait for conditions to improve before continuing use.
